HomeFront Productions is a national nonprofit media organization dedicated to helping families thrive by telling stories that matter to them.
Through solutions-focused video journalism in communities across the country and impactful partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, HomeFront raises awareness about the challenges and opportunities shaping the health and well-being of America's diverse, multi-generational families.
HomeFront was founded in 2025 by award-winning video journalists Cat Wise and Kate McMahon, the producing team behind the PBS NewsHour's five-part national child care series, Raising the Future. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/tag/raising-the-future" rel="noopener" target="_blank">
For more than two decades, Cat and Kate traveled throughout the U.S. and internationally, producing broadcast news and documentaries on a wide range of issues. As mothers and journalists, they understood firsthand the challenges today's families face, and the urgent need for trusted, solutions-focused journalism to help them navigate an increasingly complex world.
HomeFront is one of the first video-focused news organizations to be approved for fiscal sponsorship and provisional membership by the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), which supports more than 500 independent, nonpartisan news organizations in North America.
Collaboration is central to HomeFront's reporting and our mission. We work with local, regional, and national nonprofit newsrooms, civic organizations, and other mission-aligned partners to highlight shared challenges in communities across the country and the impactful solutions that bring people together and help families thrive.

HomeFront is committed to journalism that is accurate, independent, transparent, and inclusive. We believe trusted journalism is essential to helping families make informed decisions about their lives — and that it must be free and accessible to all.
We have a responsibility to produce journalism that reflects the full diversity of America and thoughtfully highlights the experiences of families historically underserved and underrepresented in the media. We listen deeply to the communities we cover, center their voices and experiences in our reporting, and let their real information needs guide our journalism. When we make mistakes, we acknowledge and correct them promptly and transparently.

HomeFront Productions subscribes to the standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and all sources of revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions. Our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.
HomeFront makes public on our website all donors who give $1,000 or more per year, and we are committed to full financial transparency with our audience.

HomeFront's journalism is philanthropically supported and always free. Our funding comes primarily from foundation grants, individual donors, underwriting and sponsorships, and earned revenue.
HomeFront Productions is fiscally sponsored by the Institute for Nonprofit News, which accepts tax-deductible gifts and grants on our behalf.

A Note from Our Founders
We built HomeFront on a belief that journalism can be done differently. A news organization that centers care for the families whose stories we tell, for the communities we visit, and for the journalists and contributors who make this work possible. One that shows up, listens authentically, earns trust, and tells stories that truly matter. Free to consume. Answerable only to the families we aim to serve.
HomeFront is proudly independent and women-led. We are beholden to no advertiser, no political interest, and no corporate owner.
But doing this work — traveling to communities across the country, earning families' trust, producing the kind of on-the-ground video journalism that truly makes a difference — takes time, resources, and a community of supporters who share our conviction that trusted journalism is essential to helping families thrive.
